Disclosure summary Acknowledgments Introduction Symbionts are live microorganisms that seem to promote host defense systems and regulate intestinal homeostasis, preventing gut infectious and inflammatory diseases (Fuller, 1989, Sartor, 2004). Numerous studies have shown the beneficial effec

More recently, several groups have characterized a role for GPR120 signaling via omega-3 fatty acids in amelioration of alcoholic hepatic injury and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) [18], [19]. Nakamoto et al. demonstrated protective effects of the omega-3 fatty NSC228155 docosahexaenoic ac

After the synthesis of methylsulfonyl or tetrazole surrogate derivatives, compounds synthesized by introducing hydrogen, fluoro, and methyl groups into the head group of GPR119 agonists were synthesized. Compounds – were synthesized by reacting hydroxybenzaldehyde with fluorine, hydrogen, or a methy

Materials and methods Results Discussion DNA repair pathways have evolved for a long time to act independently of one another. However, over the past decade several overlaps and crosstalks between these pathways were identified, showing that the DNA repair system is more complex than previo

ATP is essential for maintaining the ionic balance of the lens (Michael and Bron, 2011). Without sufficient ATP there is an ionic imbalance due to Na+K+ATPase dysfunction. Previous studies have shown that rabbit lenses incubated ex vivo without glucose rapidly lost ATP in their lens epithelium and f

The mechanism by which Piezo1 acts in the regulation of RBC volume is not firmly established. Its curved structure implies that it is activated by an increase in membrane tension (11), a mechanism indicated by electrophysiological measurements (16). However, the RBC membrane mechanics at its physiol

  2022-06-17

The ability to metastasize is the defining character of a cancer and the leading cause for resultant mortality. It is hypothesized that a rare subset of cancer cells, often operationally referred to as “cancer stem cells” (CSCs), are responsible for sustaining cancer metastasis and recurrence [1]. T

All these recent results show the interconnection between the Hippo pathway as a tumor-suppressor on the one hand and its function as regulator of metabolic homeostasis on the other. Disruption of the Hippo pathway leads to cancer growth, which is often associated with pathological disturbances in t

Starting from the hypothesis that the linker portion of the inhibitor molecules does not necessarily require the presence of an alcohol/ether or a carbonyl group, the same research group performed another scaffold hopping analysis, obtaining 1500 new compounds as potentially active HO-1 inhibitors [

  2022-06-16

The overall characteristic of RNA profile of Leydig cell is still a mystery. Variation in total RNA will cause subsequent difference in protein expression and phenotypic modulation [16]. In this study, we used a murine nicotine exposure model coupled with next generation RNA sequencing (NGS) and fou

Platycodon grandiflorum is a member of the genus Platycodon and is commonly known as balloon flower. In East Asia, P. grandiflorum is used for the treatment of asthma, coughs, inflammatory diseases, pulmonary tuberculosis, and diabetes (Takagi and Lee, 1972). Furthermore, recent studies have reporte

We have previously reported on the effects of replacing the isoquinoline P2∗ moiety with a naphthalene ring and modifying the connectivity for this element to the P2 proline ring, as demonstrated by compounds – (). Therein, it was hypothesized that the reduced potency observed with – when compared t

Earlier, we have shown relationship between cytotoxicity and receptor degeneration in GDC0068 having specific neurotransmitter receptors (Siddiqui et al., 2008). In the present study, exposure to 4-HNE reduced expression of DA-D2 receptors in PC12 cells which was found to be concentration dependent

Recent evidence suggests that HCA2 can also mediate antineuroinflammatory effects [63]. Studies in this field were initiated when monomethyl fumarate, the metabolite of DMF, was shown to be an agonist of HCA2[5]. DMF at the same time was shown to not only have beneficial effects in the treatment of
