Medium- to long-chain fatty acids Medium- to long-chain fatty acids impart a wide range of physiological effects. Medium-chain and long-chain fatty acids have 6–12 carbons and >12 carbons, respectively. As the energy source, these fatty acids are supplied primarily by food intake, biosynthesis, a

Acknowledgments Introduction Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are a common treatment for a number of disease states involving an inflammatory reaction. This group of drugs mediate their anti-inflammatory effects mainly by inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX), an enzyme of prime imp

Hardy et al. had demonstrated the role of GPR40 in mediating the proliferative effect of the FFA oleate's in breast cancer cells, and found that such effect can be reversed by silencing of GPR40 [14]. Similarly we have observed that inhibition of GPR40 function by its antagonist GW1100 inhibited cel

• In principle an ideal Fenton reaction element

  2022-06-21

In principle, an ideal Fenton reaction element should have multiple oxidation states to form a redox cycle in the process of H2O2 decomposition to HO•. Although iron is very effective in catalyzing Fenton reaction, it requires a low pH value (pH 2-4) to reach the optimal catalytic efficiency, which

  2022-06-20

H3R antagonism can prevent seizure development and improve working memory through the activation of histaminergic neurons (Huang et al., 2004, Zhang et al., 2003). In addition, we have recently found that H3R antagonism protects against ischemia-reperfusion injury via histamine-independent mechanism

  2022-06-20

The stability and function of the HIF-1α protein are affected by many post-translational modifications (PTMs), including hydroxylation, acetylation, ubiquitination and SUMOylation [[29], [30], [31]]. It has been shown that HIF-1α stability is regulated by LSD1 [25]; in particular, the Set9 histone

Hedgehog pathway The Hedgehog pathway (Fig. 1) derives its name from Hh gene mutant Drosophila, which presents a spiked phenotype resembling the animal “hedgehog” [13]. The Hh proteins control embryonic development in vertebrates, where the signaling mechanisms mediated by the proteins are multip

There is increased awareness of HBV reactivation in chronic HCV/HBV co-infected patients treated with DAAs [1], [2]. The recent emergence of this adverse event of DAA therapy is due to the exclusion of HBV co-infected subjects from registration clinical trials evaluating the safety of these treatmen

  2022-06-20

Haploid germ cell-specific nuclear protein kinase (Haspin) proteins are divergent members of the eukaryotic protein kinase family. Haspin (encoded by germ cell-specific gene 2: Gsg2) is found in many eukaryotic lineages (animal, fungi, and plants), and the protein and its mRNA were initially detecte

  2022-06-20

These and other observations presented in the elegant, rigorous study by Thomas et al. (2018) clarify a puzzling enigma regarding the Rab specificities of yeast TRAPP complexes and further highlight an important though under-appreciated role for the C-terminal HVD of Rabs in GEF substrate selection.
